Turn on to Barbara Cosgrove Lamps at the Nell Hill’s Trunk Show
Nell Hill’s was lucky to be among the first retailers to carry the unique line of lamps created by Kansas City designer Barbara Cosgrove. Now we’re excited to celebrate our long friendship with Barbara at a special Barbara Cosgrove Lamps Trunk Show at Nell Hill’s Briarcliff on Sept. 24 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Barbara’s lamps have been featured on TV programs and in publications like Elle Decor, House Beautiful, In Style and Metropolitan Home. "Barbara Cosgrove is a big deal – she has killer lamps and I admire her so much," Mary Carol Garrity interjects. "At every important place in my home, I have a Barbara Cosgrove lamp—in my entry, on my dining room buffet. No one designs or produces lamps that are more beautiful than hers."
Barbara fondly remembers her first interaction with Mary Carol: "When I was just starting out I threw a bunch of lamps in my car and drove to Nell Hill’s in Atchison," Barbara recounts. "Much to my surprise, Mary Carol herself came out to my car, took a look and placed an order--I was thrilled! I have always admired Mary Carol’s design sensibility--it is classic, but unconventional, and I like that. Doing a trunk show at Nell Hill’s is a real honor, and it’s going to be lots of fun!"
During this special engagement, Barbara will be on hand to show off her classic lamps and her newest styles. Among the lamps showcased will be the Alicia, one of the first lamp styles Mary Carol bought for her own home. Guests will also get an exclusive first look at Barbara’s brand new fall collection of lamps, and she’ll be taking orders.
Nell Hill’s is Awash in Artwork
When Mary Carol Garrity attended the big home furnishings markets around the country this year, finding fabulous artwork for Nell Hill’s customers was at the top of her shopping list. She was so successful at uncovering great pieces in a huge range of styles and prices that our warehouse is now packed full of amazing art, ready to find a home on your walls.
The new selections include showcase pieces like antique bookplates that are matted and framed, oils and engravings. Plus she found some great lines of "cheater pieces" – less expensive artwork that looks much more expensive than it is. "For instance, I found these copies of architectural engravings that are $16.75, but they look just like beautiful old prints," Mary Carol shares.
Some of the nicest selections are from Mary Carol’s signature line, the Mary Carol Home Collection. For example, an exclusive series of sepia photographs of flowers and foliage that look like expensive, original photography are only $26.50 each.
"Photography is an important element to include in your home art gallery," Mary Carol points out. "These inexpensive cheater pieces allow you to mix in photos that look expensive, right next to your nicer pieces, like original oil paintings."
