Meet the Designer: Dana Gibson

I am sure a lot of you have seen or heard about our upcoming event with Dana Gibson.  We are very excited to welcome her to our store on April 18th from 4pm-7pm to speak with all of you! We have just launched her collection here at Nell Hills and we will have small bites, Prosecco and lots of design talk! Please let us know if you will be joining us by RSVPing on our Facebook Dana Gibson Event page or by emailing Karenl@nellhills.com (RSVP’s not required to attend).

Designer Dana Gibson

Dana Gibson creates fresh and vibrant accessories, textiles and art for the home.  We have carried her fabric in the shop for a while now, and I am so excited to have her accessories as part of Nell Hill’s selection! I adore her approach to New Traditional design.

In 1993, Dana began manufacturing home accessories that are rooted in tradition but made modern for today.  Drawing on the past, Dana finds inspiration in ancient ikats, Chinese vases, painterly florals, and curvaceous ogees. Her designs have a distinctly modern sensibility.

As you have probably seen on our social channels and previously in our blog, Dana’s designs stand out in a room! Her use of bright colors and bold, hand painted patterns bring her relaxed and lighthearted aesthetic into her work. You all know I love a ginger jar – and hers are so cheerful! It’s so great to see a traditional shape take on such a new identity!

If you are not familiar with Dana’s work yet, but the name sounds familiar – it might be because you know of her great grandfather Charles Dana Gibson, the creator of the iconic Gibson Girl drawings.

This artistic legacy shaped the beauty she sees in the world! Dana’s loose painterly style is evident in both the textiles she designs for Stroheim as well as her collection of home accessories.

She has evolved from an artist crafting exquisite pottery, to a designer of furniture, wall coverings, art prints and textiles. You will find her unique patterns, boldly colored lamps, and eye-catching trays made of tin, which is hand painted from a stencil Dana creates herself.

I can’t wait for you all to discover her refreshing designs and learn more about her.  I hope to see you in-person April 18th for this event. If you can’t make it, be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook so you can still experience the fun!
