So how do you set up a productive area without losing the charm of the home aesthetic you have worked so hard to achieve? It is all in the details my friends!

Classic plaids have a traditional feel but can be modernized depending on the chosen color palette. Plaid to me is slipping on your favorite sweatshirt, cozy and comfortable and unconcerned about changing trends.
When it comes to textiles, there is no shortage of colors, weights, fibers, and patterns. It can be quite overwhelming when searching for the perfect pattern for your décor. Looking at just one style of pattern like plaid can send you down the rabbit hole with an unlimited number of patterns to sort through! Don’t worry though, as a self-identified plaid and check enthusiast, I am here to break down the most common variations to make designing easy.
Every year Pantone picks a wonderful color of the year for us all to enjoy. However, while I love periwinkle, this year is going to be all about green (for me, at least)! If you follow along with the goings on in the shop, you know that I have been a big fan of green for years (and really, my whole life), but I am turning up the volume on my obsession. Greens are having a big year in 2022 from avocado to emerald and sage – I love them all.
One thing I have learned on my design journey these past years is that there is most often no “right” answer when it comes to home décor. Sure, there are guidelines for color, scale, pattern mixing and more, and it is tempting to create a rule or norm for designing a home, however with each unique person comes a unique view of how to design the perfect space.
Happy February! This year is already going by so fast; I find it is important to slow down and celebrate the little moments when I can. One such moment is upon us – Galentine’s Day! No, I don’t mean Valentine’s Day, although that too is quickly approaching (that reminder is for you, sweet husband). Galentine’s Day, for those of you who haven’t seen Parks and Recreation, is a day meant for women to celebrate their female friendships. Love comes in all forms, and the love shared by gal pals is special in its own right! This year I decided to celebrate before the traditional day of February 13th and gathered some of my nearest and dearest friends for a small but festive luncheon full of big laughs, great food, and of course plenty of Galentine’s décor.
New Traditional design is made up of a medley of fantastic pieces, many of which are constantly changing and evolving. However, the roots of New Traditional are always firmly planted in the past. As someone who is inspired by the styles and motifs found throughout history, there is no better style to align myself with and to explore. While the evolution of décor is never done, there are certain staples that tend to hold on through the passing fads. One such item is the ever-charming ginger jar.
Despite the 10-degree chill outside these past few days, it is full spring ahead in the décor world! It is always a strange time to walk out of the ice into a warm and colorful shop. This in between time can also pose some decorating challenges. What is a home to do when it feels to early for full floral, but you don’t want to live in a winter wasteland for another month? This isn’t a one size fits all answer, but this year I am doing what I love to do year-round – bringing out the veggies!
The only thing constant about trends, is that they come and go – which is why I always say to stick to what you love regardless of what is currently “in” at the moment. That being said…who doesn’t love to be ahead of the curve when it comes to home fashion?! 2022 is set to be a fun and fantastical year for returned and reimagined trends full of nostalgia and whimsey. One such trend by which I am enamored is the re-emergence of plush curves and sculptural shapes in furniture.
Every year I try to set goals for myself as one does, and my New Year’s resolution for 2022 is to get more rest! Although with a baby on the way I can see how I might be setting myself up for failure, just as my 2021 plan to eat heathier went a bit off the rails. Nonetheless, setting goals (achievable or not) is often what keeps us moving forward! At least I can use my resolution this year as an excuse to give my bedroom a makeover, and that’s something I can get behind 100%!
