Is there a better feeling than crawling into a freshly laundered and made-up bed? Sinking into a feather soft duvet, slipping between crisp cool sheets, and lounging on the firm but forgiving mattress is truly what sweet dreams are made of. Can I be honest with you dear reader? Going to bed is my most favorite time of day! This is the prime time of year to bring a fresh look to your home, and of course, this includes the bedroom! With warmer weather approaching (it doesn’t feel like it now, but soon enough it will!), it is time to start thinking about putting the heavy extra quilts and blankets back into the cedar chest and bring out the spring! Our lovely bedding experts at Nell Hill’s have been busy switching our looks out and imparting a few tips and tricks to the perfect spring bed.
Neat and Neutral. I love everything about a neutral bedroom. Playing with light tans, creams and whites is both soothing and interesting. It reinforces that you don’t need a rainbow of color to showcase a creative and fun personality! This ready-made oversized floral duvet and pillows pairs perfectly with a variety of our custom pillows and features some of my favorite textiles and trims. When it comes to accent pillows, I am always looking for rooms in which to put our fawn fabric, with its wild yet delicate pattern it truly is an element perfect for any space! Adding in fan favorite leopard tape on the white front accent pillow and edging the white linen in a beautiful tan ruffle adds depth and interest to the bed without sacrificing the color scheme. Quick Tip: The second row of pillows is there to add volume, so using a solid linen is the perfect choice since you only notice the beautiful ruffle from the front!
Dreamy Denim. Just like your favorite jeans, this dark wash denim look never goes out of style. In fact, I’ve observed that skinny jeans are on the way out and mom jeans are back in full force and this mom, for one, is here for it! I wouldn’t make the same mistake with a timeless denim-colored duvet, however. Navies and Denims can be paired with a plethora of colors and patterns – there really is no way to pair them wrong! These colors’ versatility also carries looks through the seasons as they are perfect for warming up in the winter and brighten up in the spring. For this current look, we added fresh spring green in peppy patterns to offer a pop of energy. Quick Tip: Do you struggle with pattern mixing? It can happen to the best of us! We love a medium scale plaid mixed with a small-scale geometric and a floral or animal print. This bed is the perfect example!
Stunning Stripes. What is better than a blue, white, and tan duvet that is made from one of our newest fabrics? This is another duvet perfect for pairing with our favorite fawn textile. A neutral color scheme with a twist of color makes this bedding timeless and classic. The embroidered fabric featured is great way to tiptoe into incorporating textured embroidery into your room. Embroidered fabrics can be overwhelming, especially when used on such a large surface area, so it can compete with other bold patterns in a space. However, this large-scale pattern is perfect for pattern mixing as it plays well with others without being a solid. Quick Tip: No bed is fully made without a statement pillow! This is a wonderful place to put that daring fabric you’ve been eyeing, like this gorgeous pagoda print!
As a finishing touch for my bedding at home, I have been using our new line of detergent, fabric softener, and linen spray to keep my sheets fresh and smelling amazing.
I’m having trouble deciding between my two favorite scents though – I love the spicy, slightly masculine Black Pepper and Salt & Sage is just the right mix of fresh and comforting. Both are simply divine! We’ve just received these locally made home products at the shop and I can’t wait for you to try them out and share your favorite scents and products with me!
