A few months ago, while catching up with Twyla Elmore— friend, loyal customer, and the Owner & Lead Designer of Bleu Grace Designs—we discussed the idea of collaborating on a project. Twyla, with her deep-rooted passion for creating opportunities of joy, security, and love for children, mentioned her previous work with Sleepyhead Beds, a non-profit, charitable organization committed to improving the quality of life for children and their families by redistributing and providing clean beds and bedding to Kansas City children and families in need, free of charge. Recognizing our expertise in bedding and strong community presence, Twyla proposed the Freedom to Dream Social. Inspired by her idea and our shared values, we eagerly agreed to host this special event.
FREEDOM TO DREAM SOCIAL
We’re excited to partner with Bleu Grace Designs to host the Freedom to Dream Social at Nell Hill’s on August 3rd from 12:00pm – 3:00pm. Bring your new or gently used bedding, sheet sets, mattresses, box springs, or make a cash donation to support Sleepyhead Beds. Enjoy delicious ice cream, generously provided by Betty Rae’s, and learn more about Sleepyhead Beds and their mission with a representative from the organization. Plus, don’t miss the chance to see their impressive donation truck! Come hang out with us, support our community, and make a difference! Every donation counts
HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE AT THE FREEDOM TO DREAM SOCIAL?
On August 3rd, bring your new or gently used bedding, sheet sets, mattresses, box springs to Nell Hill’s or make a cash donation at Nell Hill’s. Sleepyhead Beds accepts:
- New and gently used sheets (Twin, Twin XL, Full, Full XL, Queen)
- New and gently used blankets of all sizes
- New Pillows
Sleepyhead Beds does not accept:
- King beds
- Used Pillows
- Bed Skirts
- Sleeping bags
DONATE A BED
Sleepyhead Beds accepts:
- New and gently used mattresses and box springs (Twin, Twin XL, Full, Full XL, Queen)
- Crib mattresses
- Pack-n-Plays (if contain all pieces)
Sleepyhead Beds does not accept:
- Beds frames or furniture
- King mattresses or box springs
- Sleep Number products, water beds, futons, sofa / couch beds, day beds, mattress toppers, bed frames, headboards, rails, motorized / adjustable beds, any other furniture, or any mattress or box spring with stains, mold, large rips, holes, burns or odors.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE IT ON AUGUST 3 OR WANT TO DO MORE?
- Nell Hill’s will be accepting bedding and sheet set donations on-site from August 2- 9.
- Donate a bed – you must schedule a pick-up or drop-off here
- Donate bedding – please take donations to the Sleepyhead Beds warehouse 5604 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64110
- Make a financial donation – the work done by Sleepyhead Beds is paid for through pickup fees, fundraising events, grants, sponsorships, and individual donations.
- Volunteer – volunteers distribute beds and bundle donated bedding, more beds to more children who need a safe and comfortable space to sleep.
