I know we are still technically a little way off from the first official day of spring, but that’s no longer stopping us from celebrating the new season! After this weekend at our Spring Open House I am going full steam ahead into springtime.
One thing to know about me – I am a self-professed fabric-fanatic! I love discovering fresh styles at market and the anticipation that comes with waiting (im)patiently to have the new textiles arrive each season. Seeing the patterns and colors gets my mind racing with the thought of the beautiful creations soon to be designed. Just when I thought nothing would ever top the rich winter plaids I spent the last few months dreaming about, our spring styles came and took my breath away!
As with every February in the Midwest, I feel like the weather has not caught up with my internal clock just yet. Lucky for me I spend a lot of time at the shop and can get my spring fix of color from the lovely stems and bright spring accessories we have. When bringing this seasonal excitement into my own home I utilize the always elegant charm of boxwood.
Romance is in the air…or is that just the smell of Christopher Elbow chocolates? Sometimes it’s hard for me to tell them apart! Regardless, Valentine’s Day is approaching and as a lover of seasonal décor I am thrilled that the shop has pops of my favorite red and white goodies! They remind me of all the fun I had during our classroom Valentines Day parties as a kid! Like decorating valentine boxes and handing out cute cards to my fellow classmates (or maybe it was all the sweets I got to take home after)! It can be easy to veer into “cheesy” décor territory with something as whimsical and light hearted as Valentine’s Day, but with the proper approach I find it to be a fun and festive time of year that is perfect to cheer up your home after the bulk of winter holiday decorations have been put away.
January can be a confusing time of year for décor. We are past the major winter holidays and have taken down our show-stopping trees and merry mantels, leaving some bare spaces in our homes that need to be filled. This time of transition is when I choose to look forward into the glory of spring!
Now that my spring cleaning is done (well…almost done) I’m ready to start introducing fresh spring décor to brighten up my house. As I begin this fun transition, I want to share some of my favorite ways to change my décor going into this light and bright season.
There are some iconic pairings that stand the test of time. Like peanut butter and jelly (still a viable dinner option after a long day in the shop for this working mama), Holmes and Watson, and of course Blue and White chinoiserie in home décor. This iconic color combo is having a major moment in interior design, but we’re here to remind you that it simply never went out of style!
