A LOVEly Refresh: Bringing Pink and Red into Your Home

While it can be a divisive color, I’m a big fan of red and all its tints, shades and secondary colors. The Unexpected Red Theory is having its moment which gives me an excuse to inject a little red into rooms where it might be lacking. It also happens to be my favorite holiday accent color since we’re able to use it for so many. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, what better way to celebrate than by adding a touch of red (and pink) to your home decor?

Whether you’re looking to make a bold statement or prefer subtle accents, we’ve got you covered. Here are some fabulous ways to incorporate these hues into your space, inspired by a few of our favorite pieces past and present in the shop.

Mix with Your Current Color Palette

You don’t have to go all out! Pink and red are versatile colors, and a little can go a long way when mixing them with your current color palette. Combine them with just about any other color to get the impact you desire – soft pink and dusty brown are subtle and sweet while red and cheetah (which is a neutral, right? 😉) pack a serious punch. The key is to find a balance that suits your style and the feeling you want to create.

Tabletop Textiles

Table coverings, runners and napkins are all fabulous ways to incorporate a little color, especially one you might only want to keep around temporarily. Whether pink or red is the primary color or one of many, adding these colors to your space through table linens can be a cost-efficient and fun way to style up your space and add a soft layer, perfect for entertaining or simply living in!

Pillows and Bedding

Would this be a Nell Hill’s post if we didn’t talk about pillows or textiles in some way?! A little pink or red in the bedroom can easily be achieved by a mix of pillows and, if you’re a fan of these hues, additional bedding like duvets, coverlets and quilts. These colors inject a bit of passion and warmth, whether you opt for subtle patterns or bold designs. Layering different textures and shades can also add depth and interest to your bedding ensemble whether to swap them out when the holidays are over or keep them year-round.

Artwork

Add an unexpected touch by popping a space with artwork that features red or pink tones. A floral print, like the one featured here, with pink blossoms can be a lovely nod to Valentine’s Day during the holiday but serve as simply a lovely botanical the rest of the year. After all, who needs a bouquet when you can have flowers that last forever? You can also explore abstract pieces or prints that incorporate these colors in unique ways.

Accent Chairs

Perhaps you’ve been flirting with the warm color family for a while and you’re looking for a little more commitment. An accent chair with an interesting pattern can be a great way to introduce a new color and pattern that will likely stick with you throughout the year. With red or pink (or any color for the matte) and a fresh pattern, an accent chair is a fantastic way to add a playful and stylish touch to your space. Consider pulling the colors through your space with complementary accent pillows and throws for a cohesive feeling.

Bold Furniture

When you’re fully committed, a bold piece of furniture in red can be an absolute showstopper. A red chest of drawers can add a vibrant and unexpected element to your living room, bedroom, or just about any spot in your home (and offers some additional storage as well). It’s a perfect way to infuse your space with serious energy and passion. Pair it with neutral surroundings to let the piece stand out, or coordinate with other bold colors for a wow effect!

As you can see, incorporating pink and red into your home decor can be both fun and stylish. Whether you choose subtle accents or bold statements, these colors can bring warmth and charm to any space and can be done in a way that speaks to your personal tastes.
