The Art of Designing a Nell Hill’s Christmas Tree

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Between the early Kansas City snow that had our fireplaces roaring and the Christmas music we’ve got rocking in the shop, I’ve been feeling more and more in the holiday spirit! To me, nothing marks the start of the Christmas season quite like getting the tree up and decorated. While decorating our tree is a season highlight for me, I have heard that some of our visitors find themselves ho-ho-hopelessly stuck on how to get their trees looking like the ones we have in the shop. Fear not – I have gathered our favorite Nell Hill’s tree tips and tricks to get your tree looking display ready!

Have a Very Mauvy Christmas

It is truly a time to have fun with design and décor – there are no rules when it comes to decorating your home for the holidays. While I adore Santa-spotting and have a nostalgic soft spot for classic red and green, we have a new look in the shop this year that I find truly stunning. So, hold on to your Christmas stockings, because I am about to venture away from tradition and trade out candy cane red for something a bit moodier but just as merry!

Holiday Open House Recap

What a magical weekend!! I had such a great time seeing all those who made it to our Holiday Open House. It was so fun watching everyone’s faces as they saw they new looks we have this year – I felt like it was actually my Christmas morning seeing all the reactions! Having everyone in such good spirits and enjoying the cranberry mimosas and bow-making made me so happy. Now that my sappy part is out of the way (almost – seriously thank you to all who came!) it’s time for the part you have been waiting for, the holiday photos!

Merry Mantels

Now that the weather is starting to turn crisp (and is soon to be cold), I can begin daydreaming about warming my hands on a cup of tea and my feet by the fireplace. After a busy day of work for my husband and me (and a busy day of preschool for my 3-year-old) it is nice to have a cozy spot to regroup and spend a few moments together. With so much cozy family time spent around the hearth, especially during the colder months, I think it’s lovely to have your mantel be a focal point in the home all season long.

From Easter to Halloween to the Fourth of July, I firmly believe all holidays deserve their time in the spotlight. However, Christmas comes early at the shop! We have so many gorgeous looks to show and enjoy that it just makes sense to start now so we can share them all with you! The first look we put up in the shop this year is full of sparkles, sequins and Santas! With a great mix of classic plaid accents, bright and punchy hues, and nostalgic characters that are presented with a fun twist, this style is best described as Winter Whimsy.

Our first fall holiday is fast approaching – Halloween is going to be here before we know it! As a seasonal décor fanatic I can hardly wait for the weather to start cooling off and the jack-o-lanterns to begin glowing. As a mother to a candy obsessed 3-year-old (and a person with quite the sweet tooth myself) I am especially excited to decorate our home to the nines this year to start instilling a love of holiday traditions with our family beyond trick-or-treating.

As Spring fades into Summer and the days get longer, I love to highlight reds, whites, and blues in my home décor. Both Mary Carol and I love this classic color combination, and it’s especially appropriate this time of year with the Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day holidays happening over the course of a few months.
