Christmas Décor: Touch of Traditional

We’ve covered a lot of holiday looks this year, from Santa’s Workshop to Woodland Wonderland to Beautiful Blue Christmas. I want to round out our Nell Hill’s displays with a look that is full of classic Christmas colors and nostalgia. In a year such as this one, I find myself craving the comfort of the well-known and the traditional holiday atmosphere from my childhood. I’m talking punchy greens, shiny reds and all the ribbon, perfectly mis-matched ornaments and bubble lights that I can find!

Christmas Décor: A Beautifully Blue Christmas

Blue Christmas might not be the most uplifting holiday song, but our Blue Christmas room is certainly one beautiful display! Blue and white is one of my absolute favorite color combinations year-round so we always have a stunning selection of chinoiserie here at the shop. While not a classic Christmas palette like pine green and poinsettia red, blue is often used to represent winter so I like to think it fits in just right for Christmas and is a frosty, magical approach to the season!

Christmas Decor: Woodland Wonderland

When I think of Christmas, there are a few things that pop instantly into my mind. Classic red and green, sitting inside by the fire with my nearest and dearest, positioning the nativity scene just so, and sleigh bells jingling. However, as I was looking at all of our holiday goodies, I realized that I wanted to do something a bit different that reflects the changes this year has brought for me. Like many families, we’re spending even more time outside and this has given me a newfound appreciation for the beauty of nature and the simplistic joy and wonder that it brings.

Bedding Roundup: More Plaid Please!

As cold weather approaches (and then leaves again and comes back…thanks Midwest!) it is really getting me excited about the upcoming season, and I don’t mean the holiday season! Sure, this time of year, it is most common to be fantasizing of dancing gumdrops, snow-covered trees and the cheery old man in red coming to leave presents, but I’m dreaming of – you guessed it – PLAID. Yes, it is finally what I like to refer to as “plaid season”!

Nell Hill’s Christmas: Santa’s Workshop

Since we have had our first snow here in Kansas City, it means I can officially dive headfirst into the Holiday season, right? I sure hope so because I am ready for all the jingle bell rocking to begin! Even when Thanksgiving isn’t so late in the month, I always find myself sneaking Christmas out a bit early in my home. While I do like to celebrate each holiday, especially ones centered around yummy food and giving thanks, I say after Halloween, any holiday décor is fair game! The shop is a different story however – we’ve been getting ready for Christmas since the end of September! The first look we were able to get setup is what I am calling Santa’s Workshop. Located in our newly painted “Flint Hill’s Room” this look is full of whimsey, classic colors, and some of our favorite holiday characters.

Autumn Aroma Therapy

Fall is in the air, and with it the crisp and spicy scents that I crave this time of year. I am candle-obsessed year-round, but I do consider Autumn to be the official beginning of “candle season”. Take a journey with me as I pair some of my favorite scents with the coziest fall corners of the shop.

Fresh Fabrics for A New Fall Season

Last weekend our Autumn accessories were flying off the shelf and it was so much fun chatting with everyone who came in to check them out! I love hearing about your fall home décor plans and talking about this beautiful season. Along the way, I am always surprised by some of the perceived “rules” that seem to pop up surrounding specific times of the year. A common misconception when gearing up for Autumn is that you are limited to a certain color palette in order to be seasonally appropriate. Untrue! While this time of year I do enjoy more spiced hues and muddy tones to match the changes we see outside, there are many ways to bring a more seasonally appropriate approach to your home regardless of color palette. I’ve gathered a few different fabric groupings that range in tone from classic fall feels to crisp autumn evening to show that it’s easy to pivot into a new season with a little textile fun!

Welcoming Fall 2020

Spending so much time at home this summer has been a rollercoaster of emotion, and one thing that is keeping me from going stir-crazy is dreaming of crisp evenings of sweater weather, apple picking on the weekend, and the new goodies that come with the change of the season. I love and appreciate each season fully, regardless of current events, and I have immensely enjoyed my days of sunshine, spritzers, and fresh florals. However, just like getting out my new fall wardrobe and feeling fabulous in lots of soft layers, I find a kind of therapeutic relief and joy in transforming my home for fall!

Red, White and Blue

With summer quickly approaching, it is time to break out the Uncle Sam hats, fireworks (sorry pups!) and our finest patriotic décor. While I love a red, white and blue palette, the colors are especially meaningful when we fly our flags on Memorial Day and Independence Day. While the color trio certainly pays homage to America, it is also a fresh and timeless color palette and that’s something that this design enthusiast can also certainly appreciate (and celebrate!). There are ways to incorporate these colors into your home, from a casual pop to full-on RWB-mania as summer progresses.

April Showers Bring May Day Flowers

With April more than halfway over (which I can’t believe!), I am starting to look forward to the joys that May brings us! I have had a little more time on my hands than I’m used to this early spring and am so excited to have an excuse (not that I truly need one) to get creative with May Day baskets.
