2020: A Decor Year in Review

What a year it has been! In some ways it feels like 2020 has lasted for a lifetime, and in others it seems like it never got a chance to start in the first place.  It has been a year that taught us to be flexible in the face of change and one that proved how amazing all of our friends and customers are for continuing to support us here at the shop.  It is because of you that we are able to keep our doors open and keep doing what we love! As we look forward to a new year (come on 2021 – we have high hopes for you!) it is important to look back at the good memories we have collected these last 12 months.  In that spirit, I have revisited some of my favorite articles from this past year that represent this eventful period of time.  I hope you enjoy taking a look back with me!

Nell Hill’s Home: Lawrence – Back in March, I had the pleasure of going to visit our friend, Gail, at her beautiful Lawrence home.  She has been a long-time customer of Nell Hill’s and being able to tour her lovely home was such a privilege! The woman has such style! I know that this visit was before COVID but I still find myself looking at the photos wondering where my mask is!

Charcuterie Chic – Another bright spot of 2020 was being able to bring a new look, Charcuterie Chic, into the shop.  Brandon and I have always loved hosting and creating beautiful boards so to have an entire space in the shop dedicated to charcuterie accessories is a dream come true!  I can’t wait to see how this look evolves throughout this next year and beyond (especially when we can start entertaining again).

The New Tradition of Grandmillenial Style and Internet Aesthetics: Cottagecore and Cluttercore – With all of my new time during quarantine I was excited to learn about new styles and aesthetics that are popular online.  These three stood out the most to me and helped inspire some new traditional looks here at the shop!

Rustic Elegance: “Outlander” Inspired Tablescape with Suzanne Zingg – Is there anything better than binge watching a favorite show and getting to work with a dear friend? I think not!  After finding out shared obsession of Outlander (and the character Jamie, of course) Suzanne and I had a wonderful time sourcing products for a lovely Scottish tablescape.  She did such a wonderful job creating an Outlander-inspired oasis at the shop, it is a must see!

Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Flint Hills Green – Last but certainly not least, 2020 also brought the launch of our long-awaited reimagined Nell Hill’s paint line.  While we have only debuted a couple colors so far, there are plenty more wonderful and versatile hues coming your way in 2021! Stay tuned!

As our journey comes to an end this year, I want to again thank you for the support I have felt these past months.  I will see you again in the New Year! Until next time – happy decorating!
