Furniture Market Recap: Part 1

Twice a year, a few of our team members head to High Point Market in North Carolina, and every trip it feels a little bit like stepping into a world built entirely around possibility. This past fall, the energy was especially vibrant — designers, makers, and vendors from across the country all interpreting tradition in ways that felt both familiar and refreshingly new.

We visit to shop, spot new trends, and get inspired for the seasons head. We also get to connect with many of our long-time vendors and friends in the industry which always makes for a great, joy-filled time! Occasionally we get out to “see the sights” around town, like the giant chest of drawers you see behind our heads in the photo above, paying homage to the rich history of furniture production in the area. Carlie (left), and (right) and I had a fun time making scale jokes at which only designers would laugh.

One of the first vignettes that stopped me in my tracks was a room layered with deep, moody tones — tufted upholstery, handsome wood finishes, and equestrian details that instantly evoked that classic, Ralph Lauren–esque warmth. Each piece was so unique, making its own statement within the overall space. This showroom was a great reminder of how powerful atmosphere can be, and how a single room can set the tone for an entire home.

We found ourselves drawn again and again to natural textures. Wicker and rattan were everywhere, not just in the classic finishes we’ve always loved, but in painted versions that felt playful and unexpected. Burlwood made a strong showing too, its rich grain adding depth to consoles, coffee tables, and case goods. These materials gave the market a grounded, organic feel — a reminder that texture is often what makes a room feel lived in.

Color played a starring role this year. Deep plums and figs, watery teals and aquas, and the timeless pairing of brown and blue created palettes that felt both cozy and sophisticated. In one dining room, warm wood tones mingled with soft blues in a way that felt instantly welcoming. In another space, a floral pair of chairs brought a burst of personality without overwhelming the room.

And speaking of florals — they were blooming everywhere. Upholstered sofas and chairs wore patterns that felt familiar but newly interpreted. When mixed with solids and layered with texture, these florals felt fresh yet nostalgic. A fresh floral sofa, anyone? Yes, please!

As we walked the buildings  and showrooms of High Point, I kept thinking about how these inspirations will come to life here at Nell Hill’s. Market isn’t just about spotting trends — it’s about finding pieces and ideas that resonate with us and our customers and will translate into rooms and spaces that feel personal, layered, and welcoming.

We’ve already transformed the shop for Spring and you’ll see elements that inspired us at Market throughout. After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we’re always eager for a fresh spring reset – you’ll find that the shop is a breath of fresh spring air (even if it is freezing cold outside 😉).

Stay tuned for Part Two of our Market recap in a couple of weeks where we’ll dig into trends a little more – we have so much more fun to share! Until then – Happy Decorating!
