Saint Nic's: A Santa Experience on The Plaza
The holidays have always been my favorite time of year. Growing up, the Plaza at Christmastime felt like stepping into a magical winter wonderland — the lights glowing against the winter sky, the carriages clip-clopping down the streets, and the feeling that the whole town was wrapped up in celebration. I still live nearby, and those memories come rushing back every December, and now I get to enjoy it all over again with my boys!
This year, the Christmas spirit has grown even stronger with our involvement in Saint Nic’s: A Santa Experience on The Plaza. Cody, the man behind the horse drawn carriages you see in the area, and the Plaza partnered together to bring Santa back in a way that feels elevated and magical, and they reached out to Nell Hill’s to help with the décor.

Saint Nic’s is more than a simple visit with Santa, it’s an immersive holiday adventure for the whole family. Guests step into Mrs. Claus’s Kitchen, a space brimming with festive charm, before moving into a cozy nook where children can write heartfelt letters to Santa. The journey culminates in Santa’s Den, a warm and welcoming space where families meet him in person, capture photos, and create lasting memories.

After you leave Santa’s Den, the adventure continues. Families walk through a winter wonderland where Santa’s favorite polar bear and cub await before exiting through whimsical candy cane doors. This enchanting space was brought to life by Dina Calcara of Seasons Abloom, whose artistry transformed the exit into a magical finale
And the magic doesn’t stop there…every ticket includes the sweetest treat of all: a beautifully iced sugar cookie from Bloom Bakery paired with a nostalgic glass bottle of Shatto Milk, straight from Mrs. Claus’s Kitchen. On Tuesday evenings, even four-legged family members get their turn — Santa meets with dogs, and each pup is treated to a special snack from Three Dog Bakery.

We were delighted to furnish and decorate much of the Saint Nic’s space, layering in furniture, cozy textures, soft lighting and greenery to make each of the three distinct areas within the space feel welcoming. It was our way of adding a little Nell Hill’s sparkle to a tradition that means so much to Kansas City.

For me, being part of this project was pure joy. The Plaza has always been woven into my own holiday memories, and to help bring Christmas cheer to the community in another way feels like a gift. Watching families gather, children’s eyes light up, and traditions renewed — that’s the kind of magic that makes this season my favorite.
At Nell Hill’s, we’re proud to have played a part in welcoming Saint Nic back to the Plaza. It’s a story of friendship, community, and celebration — and one that will carry on for years to come.
