Step into the Molasses Room and be transported to a gothic holiday haven, where the charm of gothic libraries beautifully intertwines with the warmth of the holiday season. This year, we’ve transformed this space into a Dark Academia-inspired sanctuary, filled with rich colors, intricate details, and a touch of celestial magic.
Warm and Inviting Ambiance
As you enter, vibrant rugs brighten up the room, complementing the furniture and creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Many of the decorations that make up this look jumped out to us at market, and we couldn’t wait to bring them to life.
Rich, earthy colors enhance the gothic library theme, evoking a sense of timeless elegance and scholarly charm. The dark hues provide a cozy backdrop that highlights the festive decorations, making the space feel both sophisticated and welcoming. By incorporating these tones, we’ve created a harmonious blend of warmth and tradition, perfect for celebrating the holidays in style.
The brown velvet swivel chairs on either side of the chest are a gorgeous chocolate brown, complemented by a light brown leather welt. This beautiful mix of textures adds depth and richness to the space. The room’s color palette of browns, blacks, and greys, painted in the Nell Hill’s Paint Line’s Molasses color, enhances the gothic library ambiance.
Books and Academic-Inspired Decor
A black wood etagere filled with decor, books, tiny lamps, and candlesticks adds to the room’s charm. The swag on the mirror above the black chest, creatively done by our talented visuals team, features books layered into the swag along with pinecones and metallic ribbons, enhancing the gothic library feel.
Books are in every nook and cranny, adding a scholarly touch that’s perfect for the season. Every detail has been carefully curated to evoke the feel of a gothic library, from busts to globes to magnifying glasses.
A Masterpiece Dining Tablescape
The dining tablescape is a true masterpiece, featuring hanging crates filled with books and a Pegasus sled atop the table. Garland and swags adorned with pinecones and gold leaves add a festive touch, while two small ottomans in a windowpane pattern provide cozy seating. The detailed hanging roof above the dining table, decked out with garland and stacks of books, creates a stunning focal point.
Intricate Table Settings
The table settings are a nod to the theme, featuring black ruffled placemats, rattan woven chargers, and open books under plates for added layers of interest. Classic glassware, including lowball, highball, and martini glasses, adorn each place setting, along with a magnifying glass for a whimsical touch. The combination of white, black, and brown elements ties back to the overall color scheme.
A Festive Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree is a sight to behold, adorned with stacks of books, busts, and magnifying glasses. It features gold leaf and white flower picks, gold ribbons, red berries, and a variety of ornaments in gold and white. Among the decorations are crowns that nod to royalty and religious icons. Colorful stained glass-inspired ornaments, pinecones, and armillary spheres complete the look.
