Our designers have been buzzing about the shop like impeccably dressed little bees the past week, prepping for our upcoming upholstery sale. With all of this commotion, it occurred to me that there is plenty that you can be doing to prep for the addition of new furniture pieces in your own home!
Our upholstery sale is such a fun time to be in the shop, I love seeing what you and our designers come up with when creating your unique space. Here are some tips for you to prepare for a design session so you can make the best use of your time with our designers.
- Book an appointment! We encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our designers early on in the sale. Design services offered in the shop are FREE so as you can imagine, our designers get booked up rather quickly! Call (816) 746-4320 to schedule a time. Tell us a bit about your preferred style and we’ll match you with one of our designers, if you aren’t already working with one, that is!
- Measure, measure, measure. Measuring your space is important when purchasing large pieces like sofas and chairs. If you’re planning to purchase multiple pieces for the same space, it’s helpful to create a room layout. We can help you do that if you bring in your measurements! It’s definitely worth the time investment up front. One more thing on measuring – if you are planning for an especially large piece, jot down the measurements of doorways and any other potentially tight spaces that would need to be used during delivery and furniture placement.
- Take pictures. We suggest taking pictures of your whole room (or rooms). If you want to pair your new pieces with items you already own, don’t forget to photograph the pieces that you’re holding onto! Pictures are especially helpful for your designer as they help you select fresh new looks.
- Bring inspiration photos, create a moodboard, or start thinking about color palettes. We want to work WITH you to create your dream space, and giving your designer some visuals is a great way to begin the process. Not sure where to start? Look in your favorite decorating magazines, on Pinterest, or on Houzz for beautifully curated spaces that inspire you. If you find this task a little daunting, fear not – our friendly designers can help you define your signature style during your appointment.
With a background in textiles and a love of sewing (quilting, specifically!), I’m like a kid in a candy shop while walking though Nell Hill’s. For the last few weeks, I’ve been running my fingers through all of the beautiful fabrics that we have upstairs, fabrics just waiting to become a settee, an ottoman, or an armchair in your home. That’s only PART of the reason I’m excited to welcome you in for our upholstery sale; mostly, I can’t wait to watch your ideas take shape inside our shop!
