A Vintage Postcard-Inspired Christmas!
There’s something special about this time of year at Nell Hill’s when the shop sparkles with holiday cheer and every corner feels wrapped in nostalgia. Our Vintage Postcard look is a love letter to Christmases past layered with classic holiday charm, soft shimmer, and a touch of whimsy.
Inspired by the timeless beauty of vintage Christmas postcards, this room blends coral reds, sage greens, and touches of gold and silver for a look that feels both traditional and refreshingly new. The trees are the heart of the space filled with aged metallics, berries, florals, and ornaments in soft blues, greens, and reds that shimmer against layers of velvet and metallic ribbons. The result is two trees that feel warm and nostalgic, with every branch telling a story of holidays remembered.
The dining table is dressed up beautifully yet still feels cozy – it’s the kind of table that invites a gathering. At its center, a graceful swan sculpture is surrounded by a lush arrangement of greens, silver and gold accents, flowers, red berries, and ribbons ranging from deep blue velvet to shimmering metallic. The place settings mix patterns and textures effortlessly, with folk-inspired napkins (think the charm of a Scandinavian cabin) that feature small vintage-style icons, a nod to the theme itself. Jewel-toned reds and blues pop against natural greens, creating a palette that feels festive yet refined.
Throughout the space, smaller white and gold trees add an elegant yet playful touch scattered across buffets, tables, and tucked among the décor. With trees on either side of the room bringing the entire look together, the effect is warm and rich yet bright and fresh, evoking the cheerful mix of colors found on a well-loved holiday card.
And perhaps the most charming corner of all, and my personal favorite, the mantle. A garland of greens, berries, and blooms spills over the fireplace, while a coordinating swag drapes from the mirror above. The mix of ribbons in reds, blues, golds, silvers, and whites feels perfectly vintage, like something you might find on the front of a postcard from decades past. It’s the kind of space that reminds us why we love decorating for the holidays: thoughtful details, beautiful color, and a little bit of sparkle everywhere you look.
This look captures the spirit of a sparkling, classic Christmas - elegant, nostalgic, and just the right amount of “over the top”. And while you’re in the shop to enjoy this look in person, you might just hear the sounds of the season…the Bentleys, a guitar-harpist husband and wife duo, will be performing live on Saturday, November 8 and 15 from 1–4 PM, filling the shop with festive melodies while you browse.
