Our Textiles Department is a richly layered space filled with bolts of fabric, trims, ready-made bedding, and custom possibilities. Whether you’re picking fabric on a bolt for a DIY project or dreaming up something completely unique, this department makes it easy to bring beautiful ideas to life.

Customers bring in ideas we never could have imagined and watching those ideas come to life is endlessly inspiring. Whether it’s a custom cushion for a reading nook, a monogrammed duvet for a guest room, or a needlepoint pillow with sentimental value, every project feels personal. Every day feels new, and that energy fuels the department.

 

Meet the Team Behind the Textiles Department

The magic of this department doesn’t happen on its own – it’s shaped by the expertise of Zoe, our Textiles Manager, and Caitlin, our Assistant Manager, alongside our full team of designers and experts who bring the materials to life through client projects, custom orders, and everyday support.

 

 

Together, they carefully select every in-stock fabric and trim, curate seasonal palettes and patterns, attend market to see what’s new and trending, balance fresh inspiration with Nell Hill’s traditional core. From there, our designers work directly with customers and clients to navigate choices, yardage, project details, and custom creations, turning materials into finished pieces.

Their knowledge, creativity, and passion, paired with the designers who collaborate with them daily on projects, orders, and customer support, are what make this department feel so special. They’re the reason customers walk in and say, “I’ve never seen anything like this anywhere else!”

If you’re looking for something more personal, we can help you create something uniquely yours. Choose your materials here, and our team and in-house workroom will bring your vision to life, from writing orders to guiding details and ensuring every piece is thoughtfully executed. Our workroom crafts all custom cushions, shams, duvets, monogramming, embroidery, and needlepoint finishing, so you can be sure every piece is made with the same care and craftsmanship for which Nell Hill’s is known.

Custom options include pillow shams, duvets, cushions, window treatments, monograms, embroidery, needlepoint pillow finishing, holiday stockings, and more. If you’re dreaming up something you don’t see listed, we’d love to hear from you – we’re always open to hearing about new ideas.

 

Designer Fabrics & Special-Order Options

Beyond our in-stock materials, we offer access to thousands of designer fabrics and trims that we can order for you. Our team, including the designers who work closely with clients on these projects, can help you source fabrics for reupholstery, COM (customer’s-own-material) projects, coordinate patterns and textures, or find the perfect textile for a new furniture piece. We also offer “special order” textiles like rugs and wallpaper with quite a library of swatches and options to browse in-store.

Common Misconceptions

We hear lots of questions every day, and some of our most frequently asked come from some of the most common misconceptions.

• “Can I use indoor/outdoor fabric inside?” Absolutely. We can even use outdoor fabrics for bedding.
• “I can’t use upholstery fabric for drapes.” You can – and we often do. Our top drapery fabric is actually a Crypton performance textile.
• “There’s a flaw in my fabric!” Many “flaws” are actually part of the fabric’s natural beauty – slubs, hand-blocked variations, and woven textures.
• “Pilling means the fabric is cheap.” Not true. Pilling can happen at any price point and is often solved with proper care.
