Mother’s Day is just a week away, and after such a lively Summer Open House weekend — fresh displays, new arrivals, and that early summer buzz — the shop still feels energized. This past week I quizzed some team members, who also happen to be mothers, on the little things they love to gift (and be gifted). What better time than Mother’s Day coming up to share the pieces in the shop right now they’ll reach for when they’re putting together something sweet, simple, and thoughtful for someone else. 

While it may be too late for delivery, if you’re local and still hunting for a Mother’s Day gift, these are the kinds of treasures you’ll find when you pop on by the shop!  

Pretty + Practical: Gifts She’ll Actually Use 

One theme that always seems to surface when it comes to gift giving is how much people appreciate gifts they’ll use every day. Tea towels with seasonal motifs are always a favorite — they’re charming, functional, and instantly brighten a kitchen. Paper cocktail napkins came up more than once too; everyone loves a fresh stack in a seasonal print, and they’re the kind of thing you might not think to buy for yourself but always appreciate having on hand.  

Small dishes and trays were another shared love, gifted alone or paired with another treat or treasure. One of our team members, Janet, mentioned how she keeps them by the sink or bedside for rings, but someone may also use them for nuts or olives on a charcuterie board. They’re tiny but feel thoughtful and purposeful (and are a great complement to a new piece of jewelry 😉)!

Colorful, mood lifting gifts were another thread in the conversation. Citrus pieces — grapefruit pinks, lemon yellows, anything with that fresh summer energy — always bring enthusiasm. Jeanne, another team member, pointed out how cheerful the fern and garden-inspired patterns are this season, especially when paired with something practical like a tea towel or a small kitchen accessory.  

And of course, Nell Hill’s signature scent Pickwick candles are always a favorite. They’re universally loved, and each one smells divine, making them an easy choice when you want something simple and useful.  

Entertaining Essentials for the Host-at-Heart 

For the moms who love hosting, serving pieces are a natural choice. Platters for crudites, petite bowls for snacks, and anything that can be added to a spread – these are the items that make hosting feel effortless, the pieces she’ll pull out again and again when friends drop by. Votives paired with a fresh set of napkins also came up as a go to combination. Together they create an instant table moment, simple but beautiful. All these gifts are best when filled with treats and goodies mom didn’t have to make!  

Sweet Add‑Ons That Make a Gift Feel Complete 

Sometimes it’s the finishing touch that makes a gift feel intentional. A mini lotion tucked into a bundle, a single tea towel tied around a candle, or a bottle opener added to a stack of napkins — these little additions round out a present in the loveliest way. They’re the kinds of pieces that feel thoughtful without being overdone, and they let you build a gift that feels personal to the mom you’re celebrating.
