Setting the Table for Fall Gatherings

One of my favorite things about fall is how naturally the season lends itself to gathering. The crisp air, golden light, and rich textures make even the simplest meals feel special. We believe that a beautifully set table sets the tone for the memories you’ll make around it - and autumn is the perfect time to lean into all the warmth and charm the season offers.

When designing a fall tablescape, I like to think of it as layering. Just as we pull on sweaters, scarves, and coats this time of year, a table feels most inviting when each layer adds comfort, texture, and personality.

Start with a Foundation

A runner or tablecloth is always a good place to begin - it grounds the table and creates a natural stage for everything else. From there, layer on chargers to bring depth and dimension. I especially love woven chargers in fall, like the dark wood and rattan varieties we’ve styled in the shop. Their organic texture pairs beautifully with crisp white dishes or patterned plates. For one of our tables, we tucked in a ruffled green placemat for a touch of whimsy and extra color - it’s such a simple way to make each setting feel special.

Play with Pattern and Character

Fall gives us permission to have fun with our place settings. Pumpkin-patterned linens, whimsical dinnerware, and bowls topped with charming animal lids make the table feel festive and approachable. One of my favorite looks mixes Juliska’s seasonal designs with classic solids for a collected feel. Small details, like squirrel salt and pepper shakers or a woven tiered serving stand, are not just useful but bring a bit of joy to the table.

Bring in Nature

Nothing says fall like natural textures and stems. For one of our centerpieces, we layered woven vases shaped like woodland creatures, a stag and an owl, alongside urns filled with fall arrangements. The result is playful but still sophisticated, a nod to the beauty of the outdoors brought inside. Tortoiseshell glasses and gold flatware finished the look, their warm tones echoing the season.

Add the Glow

Finally, don’t forget the light. Candlesticks in gold, shaped like leaves and wheat, bring a soft glow and a hint of sparkle to the table. They add height and balance to your centerpiece while creating that magical warmth we all crave as the days grow shorter.

Whether you’re hosting a formal dinner or an impromptu gathering of friends, setting a fall table is about creating a space that feels welcoming, layered, and personal. With a thoughtful mix of texture, color, and a dash of whimsy, your table will set the stage for the laughter, conversation, and memories to come.
