Placing the Perfect Shelf

There is no limit to the wonders of a good wood shelf! For those of us who love accessories (and have a vast collection) it is important we have the perfect piece to adorn with our favorite goodies. That means for me at least, the more shelves the better! We love to play with oversized bookshelves and cabinets at the shop, forever moving them around and filling them with our go-to treasures that make for the perfect display.

Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Atchison

Everyone likes to talk about Spring Cleaning but what about Post-Winter Hibernation Refresh?! Indeed, this year more than ever it feels like I need to make a big change to welcome in a new season of my life. What better way than with a fresh coat of paint on the walls? Painting the interior of your home is a big undertaking and is certainly not without its challenges! Last month we took the leap and repainted our entryway at the shop and it has truly transformed the space. I knew I wanted to go in a new direction from our juicy and vibrant Hedge Apple green that had been featured for many years but wasn’t sure which color would be able to span the multiple rooms and looks that we have in that area of the shop. As soon as I saw a swatch of our new color, Atchison, I knew I had found the one.

There are a few easy additions to freshening up your tables this month and start spring off on the right foot!

2021 New Trends: Colored Glass

Ok, you got me, colorful glass isn’t exactly “new”. In fact, it’s been around for thousands of years beginning with the ancient Egyptians according to The Stained Glass Association of America! And of course, lovers of historic architecture know that stained glass windows can be found in many an old religious building. As much as I appreciate the colorful glass of decades (and centuries and millennia) past, right now I’m obsessing over the brightly hued drinking glasses, bottles, decanters and cake stands of today that are elegant, delicate, and most importantly FUN! With colors spanning the entire rainbow and beyond, there is always a way to add a bit of whimsy to your tabletop whatever your preferred palette.

MC Classic: Add Panache with Pillows

A new year is upon us and that means that the fabulous new fabrics we handpicked at market are finally arriving! With new textiles comes fresh bedding, upholstery, and so many exciting pillows that I feel like a kid in a candy store (or more accurately an accent pillow obsessed person in a home décor shop). I am always switching out my throw pillows in my living spaces and adding so many to my bedroom I am surprised my husband can still make his way under the sheets each night. To this day, whether we are ordering pillows for the shop, ourselves, or our customers, we keep in mind Mary Carol’s three rules of pillow panache…

Finding the Perfect Perch

Few things are more sacred than your designated seat in the living room. It seems every time my family gathers together we go to our unofficial (but also very official) assigned seats in our shared living spaces. My favorite perch features an easy swivel to allow for full room surveillance and a firm cushion for ultimate support that allows me a nice bounce to launch after my four-year-old after I inevitably see him getting into mischief on one of my spins around the room. It has me wondering, what do our different chairs say about us? I decided to take a look at some of my favorite designs and break down the form, style, function and status of each to help you find the perfect place to rest.

Beating the Post-Holiday Décor Slump

We did it! We survived 2020 and a very (for a lack of better word) unique holiday season. Since we were spending most of our holiday time at home this year, I pulled out all the stops to make it feel as normal as possible. However, now it seems that the post-holiday décor slump is even more pronounced in my home. By “post-holiday décor slump” I mean that the mantels that once boasted full garland now look bare and the corner of my living room that featured a magnificent tree, a bit empty. The lack of Christmas cheer is leaving me in a bit of a funk. We run into the same dilemma in the shop – where do we even start with bringing life back into our spaces after such a full and magical time of year?
