Simple Décor for Spooky Season

When it comes to holidays, next to Christmas, Halloween is my favorite!  An excuse to bring out the campy and creepy-chic décor? Sign me up!  As the first holiday of the fall and winter season, it was always so exciting as a child to come home from school and see all the wonderful changes my mother had made to our home to transform it into a magical new place (pumpkins were, and still are, my favorite).  It meant that celebration season was upon us!

Two is Better Than One

I’ve had something to say for a while. I have been nervous to share not knowing what the response would be, but here it goes. Trade in your guest room double bed for a pair of twins! I know I know, what am I talking about – have I gone crazy?! I wasn’t sure myself at first but over the last year I have been falling in love with daybeds and twin bedframes and now I can’t get enough!

Sneak Peek at Fall 2021

Our shop transforms a bit before the weather does so it isn’t hard for me to pretend that we are already in the thick of pumpkin spice season (which I’ll appreciate a little extra this week as temperatures in Kansas City are still at nearly 100 degrees)! Allow me to offer you some reprieve from the sweltering heat and we can together imagine a world of cider donuts and blanket bundled bonfires as we explore the upcoming trends of fall.

Fall 2021 Trends: Menswear Inspired Design

I for one am crazy about menswear inspired décor (as well as garments for myself – hello tweed blazers)! As fall and winter approach, it is the perfect time to add traditionally masculine touches to your spaces for increased comfort and warmth.

A Rug Can Make All the Difference

Besides being a gorgeous flooring choice, hard wood floors give us a wonderful, warm blank canvas to play with a wonderful New Traditional staple: rugs. It is my firm belief that a home isn’t complete without floor coverings. A rug can take a space from barren and chilly to warm and inviting.

Create a Cart That Raises the Bar

The sun is out, the sky is clear, and things are starting to feel normal again! After the crazy and isolating year we just endured, it is wonderful that we are able to start gathering together again in time for the summer. Back are the evening happy hours and parties with inventive cocktails! Ever since their heyday in the 50’s and 60s, bar carts have been a staple in many homes. Carts come in so many finishes and styles that you’ll be able to find one that fits into any space.

The Scents of Summer 2021

A home isn’t complete without a delicious fragrance gently enveloping your rooms. We work with our beloved Pickwick & Co. Candlemakers here in Kansas City to make sure that all our signature scents and the ones we carry both online and in-store are powerful enough to waft through your entire home. While fall and winter might be better known as “candle seasons”, the spring and summer months have a variety of wonderful aromas that you can bring to your spaces. I’ve picked out a few of my current favorites to share with you that take me into a dream world of sun, sand and citrus.

Lakehouse Chic: Summer Seating

Memorial Day weekend is soon upon us, and with that the start of a lovely and leisurely lake season. Whether just visiting a lakeside abode and wanting to bring some of the magic back to your neighborhood for the summer or venturing out to your special getaway, the rustic chic lake aesthetic is beloved by many. To me lake inspired décor is fun, free, and a bit whimsical, too! It brings to mind walks in the fresh air, lush greenery, and sparking campfires in the evening. I for one can’t wait to be spending more time in the great outdoors as the seasons turn and decorating my home and outdoor spaces is half the fun! While I wait to enhance my own yard, I had a lot of fun playing with our new outdoor furniture in Mary Carol’s beautiful backyard.
