Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Midwest Morning

I’ve already shared my love of blue in our recent post on Summer Blues, but the comfort I feel around this hue bears repeating. Blue is a traditional and calming color that can be incorporated into any style and space. As I brainstormed and tested colors for our Nell Hill’s paint line, I knew I needed a version of blue that would take my beloved shade to the next level of serenity. This is how I came to find the tone we now call Midwest Morning.

When you think of summer décor, your mind might wonder to bright pops of hot pink and shining yellow. I love pops of colorful florals and fresh hues in my home. However, this year I am all about bringing earthy tones and airy neutrals to the forefront of my spaces. Following a challenging year that kept us cooped up, bringing calming, earthy shades into our homes can give a sense of much needed comfort. The beautiful tones of mother nature are a sure way to create a homey atmosphere.

Using a mixture of traditional elements with contemporary touches creates a space that is full of life and personality. There are many levels and iterations when it comes to bringing this unique style into your home. I’ve pinpointed my favorite additions that make for a stunning New Traditional atmosphere whether you want to tip the scales towards timeless or trendy.

Back to College: Bedding and Pillows

Thinking back to my younger years at university I remember a lot of different emotions. That first time away from home is an eye-opener! One of the hardest parts is leaving the comforts of home and branching out to discover your own way. I remember thinking I’d spent 18 years curating my childhood room and now I had to leave it behind! Making a dorm room or rental bedroom feel like your own space is not always an easy task. With rarely an option to add paint colors or even your own furnishings to a space, it can be challenging to make it truly feel like home. My suggested solution? Fabulous fabrics and bedding, of course!

Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Meadow

If you have followed along with me over the last couple years, you know that one of my absolute favorite colors is green. I find myself drawn to this lovely hue year-round and in all its brilliant forms. From restful soft shades to bright pops that bring energy and life to a space, there is always an appropriate spot for a green accent. As we developed our new paint line colors, I knew I wanted to add another green to join the iconic Mary Carol Hedgeapple hue that is so beloved. After trying to sneak at least five lovely green tints into the line because I couldn’t pick a favorite, Meadow emerged.

If the best way to get to know someone is to look at their bedroom, then the best way to get to know our designers is to look at their bedding! I get questions all the time about our talented design team and I want to introduce them to you! This year I’ve been tasking them to create their own custom bedding look for the shop and featuring them monthly. It has been so fun to see their bedding go from initial idea conception to flat lay to creation. We are only two looks into this program and I can’t wait any longer to share the first two designs (and designers) with you!

Create a Cart That Raises the Bar

The sun is out, the sky is clear, and things are starting to feel normal again! After the crazy and isolating year we just endured, it is wonderful that we are able to start gathering together again in time for the summer. Back are the evening happy hours and parties with inventive cocktails! Ever since their heyday in the 50’s and 60s, bar carts have been a staple in many homes. Carts come in so many finishes and styles that you’ll be able to find one that fits into any space.

We’ve got the summer blues and I couldn’t be happier about it! While we have always loved blue décor here at Nell Hill’s, this summer has taken our passion for blue hues to new heights. With lovely shades for every room and occasion, blue is having its time in the sun. French Blue, Classic Cobalt, and Navy have captured our attention for Summer 2021 and we can’t get enough of them at the shop and at home!

The Scents of Summer 2021

A home isn’t complete without a delicious fragrance gently enveloping your rooms. We work with our beloved Pickwick & Co. Candlemakers here in Kansas City to make sure that all our signature scents and the ones we carry both online and in-store are powerful enough to waft through your entire home. While fall and winter might be better known as “candle seasons”, the spring and summer months have a variety of wonderful aromas that you can bring to your spaces. I’ve picked out a few of my current favorites to share with you that take me into a dream world of sun, sand and citrus.

Memorial Day weekend is soon upon us, and with that the start of a lovely and leisurely lake season. Whether just visiting a lakeside abode and wanting to bring some of the magic back to your neighborhood for the summer or venturing out to your special getaway, the rustic chic lake aesthetic is beloved by many. To me lake inspired décor is fun, free, and a bit whimsical, too! It brings to mind walks in the fresh air, lush greenery, and sparking campfires in the evening. I for one can’t wait to be spending more time in the great outdoors as the seasons turn and decorating my home and outdoor spaces is half the fun! While I wait to enhance my own yard, I had a lot of fun playing with our new outdoor furniture in Mary Carol’s beautiful backyard.
