Summer might just be getting started, but the styles of summer 2022 have been hard at work! One of the best parts of working at the shop is seeing what new fabrics, patterns and designs make their way to the showroom floor each season. This summer has been all about color! From bold and untamed to classic pastels, hues of all kinds are having a heyday!
All good classic tales have one thing in common – you have to kiss a lot of proverbial frogs to find your prince. In Cinderella, the glass slipper had to be put on quite a few feet before finding the right fit, and we all know Goldilocks had to nibble a few porridges before finding the one that was just right. It makes me wonder, what if Prince Charming had taken the time to look at the shoe size or if Goldy had just stopped to grab a snack before breaking and entering? When it comes to finding the perfect match there are ways to skip some of the hardships and make your way to a fairy tale ending, especially when it comes to upholstered furniture
Our style at Nell Hill’s could be called a lot of things, but boring isn’t one of them! We love to mix everything from styles to colors and especially patterns. After all, New Traditional design is a mix itself! It is classic and fresh, livable and lux, formal and fun. The goal is to take “traditional” elements and turn them into “new” design concepts that paint the story of YOU in your home. Pattern mixing is the starting point to be creative and show personality; it is the perfect excuse to be wild and free and throw the rule book out the window. Without a rule book, you can start to create a unique and wonderful home.
tmosphere it creates (and the fact that is pairs so well with a crackling fireplace), it is a wonderful and stunning fabric to use year-round. Classic plaids have a traditional feel but can be modernized depending on the chosen color palette. Plaid to me is slipping on your favorite sweatshirt, cozy and comfortable and unconcerned about changing trends.
When it comes to textiles, there is no shortage of colors, weights, fibers, and patterns. It can be quite overwhelming when searching for the perfect pattern for your décor. Looking at just one style of pattern like plaid can send you down the rabbit hole with an unlimited number of patterns to sort through! Don’t worry though, as a self-identified plaid and check enthusiast, I am here to break down the most common variations to make designing easy.
I can’t tell you how happy I am that it is finally feeling like fall! I have been craving these cool evenings and the sight of changing leaves for quite some time now and am thrilled that the weather has finally taken note. However, all good things come with a loophole. In this case, it is me having a hard time leaving my warm bed in the morning! Luckily our designers have been creating beautiful custom bedding to keep us all cozy and comfortable during these cold months ahead!
I’ve already shared my love of blue in our recent post on Summer Blues, but the comfort I feel around this hue bears repeating. Blue is a traditional and calming color that can be incorporated into any style and space. As I brainstormed and tested colors for our Nell Hill’s paint line, I knew I needed a version of blue that would take my beloved shade to the next level of serenity. This is how I came to find the tone we now call Midwest Morning.
A new year is upon us and that means that the fabulous new fabrics we handpicked at market are finally arriving! With new textiles comes fresh bedding, upholstery, and so many exciting pillows that I feel like a kid in a candy store (or more accurately an accent pillow obsessed person in a home décor shop). I am always switching out my throw pillows in my living spaces and adding so many to my bedroom I am surprised my husband can still make his way under the sheets each night. To this day, whether we are ordering pillows for the shop, ourselves, or our customers, we keep in mind Mary Carol’s three rules of pillow panache…
Painting is one of the simplest (and most effective) ways to transform a room. Paint sets the overall mood of the room, and the stage for the layering of furnishings and accessories. When creating our Nell Hill’s paint line, I wanted to create colors that I would want in my favorite rooms: rooms that are both lovely and lived in, comfortable and friendly, on trend and yet timeless. Our new palette of seventeen colors has endless combinations that are perfect for enhancing a home’s unique style. The first color I would like to highlight is a versatile and enduring hue – Flint Hills.
