Lovely Lakehouse Essentials

What is going on with this June weather in Kansas City? It’s usually August before this type of heat and humidity reach us! It makes me want to pack up the family and find some fresh (hopefully breezy) air at the nearest lakeside abode.  However, with a newborn at home it seems that dream will have to wait a bit.  In the meantime, since I can’t be submersed in a cooling lake, I am submersing myself in beautiful lake décor!

Pretty and Patriotic Styles

If you have been following along with me you know that while I have many favorite color combinations, red, white and blue is right near the top year-round!  That is one reason I get so excited during the summer months when it come to the forefront of the shop.  While in the other months I try to stay away from making this combination scream USA, these are the months where it is easier than ever to bring out a bit of patriotic prettiness to existing home designs – even those who don’t share my obsession with decorating with these hues.

Beautiful Botanicals

I have always been a big fan of botanicals in the home.  From a young girl who wanted flowers on her wallpaper to an adult…who still wants flowers on my wallpaper! However, my husband and two sons don’t seem so keen on the idea so we must meet in the middle by mixing together my favorite florals with more masculine flower-free botanicals to keep our spaces in perfect harmony.

Spring 2022 Tabletop Round Up: Textiles and Texture

We have had so many beautiful tabletop looks in the shop so far this season, I have been truly in awe of our visual teams’ creations.  This is the perfect time of year to let your settings speak for themselves in a way.  During the holiday seasons we get caught up in the glitz and glam, however spring and summer are times when simplicity shines and textiles and texture can take centerstage.

Pillow Talk: A Look into the History of Pillows

As I was lounging around my home the other day (I use the word lounging very loosely as I am on maternity leave and completely at the beck and call of my new little family member), I found my mind wandering.  A wandering mind is not out of the norm for me with my new mommy brain in full force, however this time I found myself getting fixated on my many throw pillows throughout the house.

The Birds and the Bees and Everything In Between

Decorating with animals is nothing new, in fact it is quite common for people to have a favorite animal or symbol that they use throughout their home decor. Some choose to decorate with dogs or refresh with rabbits, however there are many little critters that make just as big of an impact.

Bring A Bit of Bridgerton Into Your Home

Dearest gentle readers,
It is often said that those who binge-watch delightfully decorated period dramas on Netflix must then obsess over the regency style of design for quite some time.  This sentiment is clearly one that I hold dear to my heart as I have been searching for not one, not two, but three weeks for the perfect touches to add old world elegance to my spaces.  As the end of my season viewing draws near, I believe it is my responsibility to keep you informed so we might bring a bit of Bridgerton into the ton before polite society makes their pilgrimage to the country. – Yours truly, Lady Laughridge

Bold & Beautiful Colors: It Was All Yellow

With springtime about to bloom, I am inspired to start incorporating daring colors that have been dormant throughout the last few months.  While blue and green are colors I shall forever adore and use to adorn my spaces, my eyes have been wandering over to the warmer side of things with visions of sunny days and warm breezes bringing yellow to the forefront of my mind.

New Traditional Staple: The Ginger Jar

New Traditional design is made up of a medley of fantastic pieces, many of which are constantly changing and evolving. However, the roots of New Traditional are always firmly planted in the past.  As someone who is inspired by the styles and motifs found throughout history, there is no better style to align myself with and to explore.  While the evolution of décor is never done, there are certain staples that tend to hold on through the passing fads.  One such item is the ever-charming ginger jar.

2021 Trends We Want to Bring Into the New Year

There is nothing quite like the start of a new chapter to reflect on days (and styles) past.  Each year brings such breathtaking trends that is seems a shame to leave all of them behind. Now don’t get me wrong, there are quite a few things I would like to leave in 2021 as we begin a fresh and exciting 2022, but I can’t help but reflect on a few items I hope to be bringing with me as well.
