We have had so many beautiful tabletop looks in the shop so far this season, I have been truly in awe of our visual teams’ creations. This is the perfect time of year to let your settings speak for themselves in a way. During the holiday seasons we get caught up in the glitz and glam, however spring and summer are times when simplicity shines and textiles and texture can take centerstage.
With the weather gearing up for sunny days I can’t help but think that I need to get my garden and outdoor space elevated from junk pile (most recently piled high with old doors) to backyard oasis. In truth, all it took was one visit to Mary Carols beautiful cottage to see that a stunning setting under the sun and stars is a must have for this new season ahead.
As I was lounging around my home the other day (I use the word lounging very loosely as I am on maternity leave and completely at the beck and call of my new little family member), I found my mind wandering. A wandering mind is not out of the norm for me with my new mommy brain in full force, however this time I found myself getting fixated on my many throw pillows throughout the house.
While many things in life change and evolve, the steps to creating a beautiful bedroom do not! Once upon a time Mary Carol laid out a roadmap to creating a stunning space in which to relax and regenerate, and this advice still gets me through my room refreshes today. I thought we could all use a reminder from her this spring as we look to breathe a little new life into or completely transform our rooms during spring cleaning.
Decorating with animals is nothing new, in fact it is quite common for people to have a favorite animal or symbol that they use throughout their home decor. Some choose to decorate with dogs or refresh with rabbits, however there are many little critters that make just as big of an impact.
Our style at Nell Hill’s could be called a lot of things, but boring isn’t one of them! We love to mix everything from styles to colors and especially patterns. After all, New Traditional design is a mix itself! It is classic and fresh, livable and lux, formal and fun. The goal is to take “traditional” elements and turn them into “new” design concepts that paint the story of YOU in your home. Pattern mixing is the starting point to be creative and show personality; it is the perfect excuse to be wild and free and throw the rule book out the window. Without a rule book, you can start to create a unique and wonderful home.
This year is flying by! Who among us can believe it is already April? Part of my brain still thinks it’s February 2020! While prepping for the arrival of a new family member – we welcomed a fresh new baby boy to the family early this month – I attempted to get ahead of the curve by planning our Easter fun far in advance.

It is often said that those who binge-watch delightfully decorated period dramas on Netflix must then obsess over the regency style of design for quite some time. This sentiment is clearly one that I hold dear to my heart as I have been searching for not one, not two, but three weeks for the perfect touches to add old world elegance to my spaces. As the end of my season viewing draws near, I believe it is my responsibility to keep you informed so we might bring a bit of Bridgerton into the ton before polite society makes their pilgrimage to the country. – Yours truly, Lady Laughridge
Spring is in the air, and so are its wonderful scents! When I think of spring, aroma is at the forefront of my mind. Stepping outside and inhaling a fresh, earthy breeze is my sign that the season has officially changed. I can picture it now in my mind – light cotton dresses, dreamy floral sprigs, gardens starting to bloom and a sense of renewal that only comes with spring. I have a few favorite scents this season that pair beautifully with many of our different springtime looks in the shop!
With springtime about to bloom, I am inspired to start incorporating daring colors that have been dormant throughout the last few months. While blue and green are colors I shall forever adore and use to adorn my spaces, my eyes have been wandering over to the warmer side of things with visions of sunny days and warm breezes bringing yellow to the forefront of my mind.
