Pillows with All the Trimmings!

When it comes to pillows, I can never get enough! Much to my husbands’ displeasure (he secretly loves them I know it!) you can find textiles of all shapes and colors in almost every room in my home. One of the details that gives a pillow its unique and tailored appearance is the trim. There are many kinds of trim and techniques so it can be hard to know what you want when it comes to fitting your pillows into your home aesthetic and design – it’s different trims for different whims! To get started into the world of trimmings, I’ve collected a few of my favorite edgings that I mix and match throughout my home to share with you!

Building a Beautiful Vignette

I love a good vignette. These small, curated style statements made up of a group of objects can be found displayed on shelves, tabletops, and elsewhere in a home. These pretty collections can be used to tie a space together, incorporate beloved items into your décor, or add functionality to a surface. Of course, we use them all over the shop to display our wares, too, and our goal is to inspire you to take the same pieces home with you for your own creations! But if you’re new to creating vignettes, where does one begin?

Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Ward Parkway Brick

The language of color is complex and can be different for each person. The way we view and relate to color is influenced by our experiences. Creating our paint line has been an exciting challenge that has required me to dig deep into what color means to me and what it can bring to the world of home design. One of our wildest shades brings to the forefront passion, love, activity, heat, and joy – yes, the color is red and it is not for the weak at heart! However, that is perfect since I’m not one to play it safe when it comes to design! After searching through so many different shades that I was almost seeing red (hehe) I found the perfect dominating red tone – Ward Parkway Brick.

2021 Mother’s Day Must Haves

It’s that time of year for us to show our mothers (and mother figures) how much we appreciate and love them. I always find myself getting a little sappy around Mother’s Day. Not only is it so precious to see my four-year-old so excited to give me his special presents (one can never have too many treasures found during play time in the great outdoors), but I find a special kind of joy in gifting my own mother items that bring a smile to her face. She always tells me she only wants time spent with family, but since we love to do that year-round anyway, I am always on the hunt for something that I know she will love but wouldn’t necessarily think to splurge on herself.

Home Office Essentials

While parts of day-to-day life seem to be getting back to “normal” (or at least a new NEW normal), some changes from the last year seemed poised to stay around for some time to come. One of these changes is that home offices are more necessary than ever! With offices turning to permanent work from home or hybrid work schedules, it is important to create a practical space at home that is built for productivity. This has created a new challenge for us here at the shop, since many times practical and productive can be a bit…blah. We’ve been searching high and low to bring style and finesse to our home office essentials so that you can create a study that will stun both in person and over Zoom.

I Scream You Scream for Ice Cream: Exploring the Colors of Summer 2021

Summertime is near and with that all the beautiful colors that accompany the season. Summertime brings to mind cooling blue-green lake water, the soft moody lighting of a gentle evening sunset and the dewy fresh greens of a well-watered lawn. The plethora of new bright colors this season reminds me of being outside in my childhood and hearing the familiar tune of the ice truck ice cream truck meandering down my street, wondering what colorful concoction would soon be my sweet treat (it was usually something with gumball eyes). Now in adulthood, my sweet treats come in the form of self-care and beautiful décor (and also still ice cream, because treat yourself!). Ice cream hues are vibrant but still soft. They are creamy versions of the fundamental shades we know and love that blend beautifully in your home. Some of my favorites this year are blushing strawberry pink, fresh mint green, delicious light lavender, and tart lemon sherbet. Delicious!

I don’t know about you, but nothing makes me want to stay in bed all day lounging more than a rainy day. Seeing as spring is upon us, the drizzle of April showers won’t be going anywhere soon! This means, it is time to refresh and re-comfy (yes, I made up that word) our bedrooms for optimal rainy-day snoozing. I have been loving our new beds and bedding designs that the Nell Hill’s team have been creating on our second floor. If I had to pick one trend that is slipping into my dreams it is the ever-classic, beautifully timeless combination of Blue and White.

Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Prairie Rose

When I was creating colors for our Nell Hill’s paint line, I knew I wanted to find shades that were timeless and could adapt to any home. I also (perhaps selfishly) wanted to bring some of my favorite hues from my life and turn them into paint colors that could be enjoyed by all! Growing up, when asked for my favorite color, the answer was always pink! All of the best things in life were pink like sweet cotton candy, mouth-watering bubblegum, and my dress-up ballerina leotards and tutus (which my good-natured younger brother was often forced into during dress up time). Pink was a happy color, full of life and love – it was sugar and spice and everything nice! While my favorite color has changed throughout the years – like my four-year-old says, why *not* have a new favorite color every day? – my soft spot for shades of preppy pink has not faded. Now that I’m grown up, why not make my former Barbie dreamhouse dreams come true through our paint line?

Serving Up Easter

Bunnies and tulips and colorful eggs, oh my! With Easter only weeks away (how?!) my mind turns to my wonderful family memories of this time of year – gathering around the dining table to dye eggs, scavenger hunts to find baskets filled with sweets, and heading to church with extended family on Easter morning are among my favorites. Of course, I love to dress the table up for any occasion, and Easter is no different. I’m finding myself having even more fun with it these days, incorporating little things my little guy might enjoy and it’s especially easy at Easter time (who doesn’t love cheerful colors and playful bunnies?)!

Craving Color: Incorporating Juicy Citrus Hues into Your Home

Sometimes when a craving hits it can’t be ignored! I’ve been experience cravings not only with my sweet tooth but with my other tastes as well. It all started last week when one of our wonderful team members, Karen, brought in delicious lemon bars for the crew. I hadn’t had such a bright flavor in quite a while, and it hit me that I needed more bright and juicy tastes and colors in my life. How fun is it that inspiration can come from the most unexpected (and delicious) of sources! I’ve now made it a point to bring vibrant lime, fresh orange, and tart lemon colors into our décor to embrace this sharp and joyful feeling that I don’t want to shake!
